Why do you need to invest in social media?

Social media has been around for awhile now, and we know that it’s important – but surprisingly enough there are still businesses that have yet to start thinking seriously about social media marketing. Why? Mostly because they just don’t “get it” yet – and that’s okay.

While I was looking around online recently, I found a great infographic that helps takes a look ay the social media landscape in 2016 – outlining active users, b2b vs. b2c usage, as well as how long people spend on social media marketing each week.

Yes – I know I said 2016, but since we are only a few months into I figured this was still useful.

So, let’s take a closer look at some of the numbers that Market Inspector shares in this infographic!

 

Number of Users:

North America – 213 million

Central America – 87 million

South America – 211 million

West Europe – 201 million

East Europe – 191 million

Central Asia – 773 million

South Asia – 249 million

Southeast Asia – 234 million

Africa – 129 million

Oceania – 18 million

No surprise there – most of the world is using some kind of social media. And bottom line is that if you are not speaking to potential customers in their language, you’re missing opportunities.

What exactly does social media to do help your business?

  • Social media will help you increase the exposure of your business
  • Social media will help you increase website traffic
  • Social media will help with brand loyalty
  • Social media helps fill the lead generation funnel
  • Social media will (ultimately) increase sales for your business

What social networks are being used by B2C and B2B companies?

 

  • Twitter: 80% of B2B companies, and 75% of B2C companies
  • Facebook: 88% of B2B companies, and 98% of B2C companies
  • LinkedIn: 86% of B2B companies, and 58% of B2C companies
  • YouTube: 51% of B2B companies, and 54% of B2C companies

The infographic also shows the number of businesses that are on Instagram, GooglePlus, Pinterest – and that less than 10% of all businesses on social media are using Vine, SnapChat, Flickr, TripAdvisor, Tumblr and other services.

Which are the most popular paid social media advertising options?

  • Facebook Ads: 87%
  • Google Ads: 39%
  • Twitter Ads: 18%
  • LinkedIn Ads: 17%
  • Pinterest Ads: 15%
  • Instagram Ads: 12%
  • YouTube Ads: 12%

And again, you can see that Facebook comes out on top – with over 87% of businesses using paid Facebook ads. When used properly Facebook ads CAN be very powerful, but it is important to make sure that you know what you’re doing before you get started. If you are not outsourcing to a professional, do some reading first and learn Facebook ad basics – otherwise, you’ll end up wasting money and being frustrated with poor results.

Have we convinced you that investing in social media is important? The fact is that numbers do not lie, and the reason that the majority of businesses are using social media is that (when done properly) it can deliver real results.

The best thing that you can do if you are unsure is to hire a company that specializes in social media management. Make sure you have a clear idea of your goals, talk to the company about it, and allow them to take the work off your hands. You’ll notice that the infographic also lists the amount of time that marketers commit to social media – the thing they don’t mention is who does what job, and the results. Handing over hours of social media work to a social media management company frees up your time so that you can work on other elements of your business, and also ensures that the time dedicated to you accounts is being used correctly.
