The Value of Branding

Why is branding important?

“Branding” is a term that is used a lot these days, and the fact is that some people (and companies) still don’t know what it means.

First things first…

What is branding? Well, branding is creating a unique image for your company through the use of a consistent theme.

A lot of people will go right to marketing/advertising when talking about branding, but it goes a lot deeper than that. Branding is something that is ingrained in the roots of your company, that affects many different elements and can be the difference between success and failure.

So – why is branding important?

Branding will improve recognition for your company.

So – here is where you think about your logo, colours, and graphics. You want to make sure that you are memorable to customers and potential customers. Think about your favourite brands; you can probably describe (and even draw) their logo. THAT is good branding! You need to make sure that your logo is on EVERYTHING, and we mean EVERYTHING. Every piece of correspondence you send, your uniforms (if you have them), your packaging….you get it.

Keep in mind; a professional logo design is simple enough to be memorable, and powerful enough to give the desired impression of your company.

Branding will build trust and credibility.

Making sure that you are paying attention to your professional appearance builds credibility and confidence with your customers/clients, which means that they are more likely to purchase from you. A business that is polished and legitimate will always do better than one that is not – which is because emotional reactions are hardwired into each and every one of us, and are extremely influential in decision-making.

Good branding supports advertising efforts.

This applies to television, print, online, and social media efforts. Making sure that you have a clear brand will set you apart from the competition and make people WANT to work with you, or buy from you. Don’t fall into the “offer everything” trap and provide too broad a range of services or products. There is a fine line when it comes to advertising – if you are too narrow you might risk being “pigeon-holed” and lose your ability to expand into new markets – BUT – if you are too broad you’ll fail to create an accurate impression of your company in the minds of potential clients and customers.

Branding will help inspire your employees.

This is one element that usually is not taken into consideration, but it is crucial – for any company with employees. You see, the thing is the people that work for you need more than just ‘a job’ – they want to feel like they are working toward something. When your employees understand your mission they are more likely to feel pride in their job, be more productive, and as a result, you’ll have less turnover and better workers. The best way to put this is…having a strong brand will give your employees something to rally around.

The fact is that the companies that do the best, small or large, have their branding nailed down. They have established themselves as a leader in their particular industry by building a strong brand.
